Question Title Hide a User from the Shared Address Book in Office 365

You can hide a user's contact information from the shared address book to help satisfy some of the privacy and compliance requirements of acts such as the Data Protection Act in Europe. Users can't configure this setting for their own profiles, but an administrator can use Windows PowerShell to hide a user account so the user's contact information is hidden.

Before you begin

To learn how to install and configure Windows PowerShell and connect to the service.

Hide existing users from the shared address book

Run the following command:

Set-Mailbox <Identity> -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true

For example, to hide the user Tamara Johnston from the shared address book, run the following command:

Set-Mailbox "Tamara Johnston" -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true
Unhide users from the shared address book

Run the following command:

Set-Mailbox <Identity> -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $false

For example, to make the contact information visible in the shared address book for the user Tamara Johnston, run the following command:

Set-Mailbox "Tamara Johnston" -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $false
